Subject:
Panera Bread bld20110196 Water System
??
Hi Josh,
I'm sending this email in follow up to our earlier phone conversation regarding the water system improvements at
Panera Bread. As we're all aware, the water system has the potential to be installed quite differently than what is
shown on the approved civil construction plans. Any changes that are made to the system first need to be
approved by the City and documentation of the changes will need to be provided in an asbuilt at the end of the
project.
FIRE LINE
The existing Fire Line is an 8" line. There is an existing double detector check valve assembly (DDCVA) in an
existing vault that may or may not be functioning properly.
1) Contractor to have the DDCVA tested. If it passes, the assembly can remain in place. If it fails, installation of
a new assembly will be required, but the existing vault could be used.
2) An FDC and PIV will be required. Location of these fixtures to be approved by the Fire Department. Please
provide a detail showing configuration of the entire fire system/vault. Ultimately, separate plans will be required
for this and the approval for the work will be issued under a separate fire connection permit.
DOMESTIC & IRRIGATION
The existing services are tapped off the 8" fire line, which runs east and west. The City would like to correct this
and tap the services off the main line that runs north and south. The City will tap the water main and run service
to a new meter. The contractor will be responsible for installation of the water service line from meter to the
building.
2) What size domestic meter is required for the site? Is a 1 1/2" needed or will a 1" suffice?
3) Where should the domestic meter be located? The location should allow for installation of the required RPBA
immediately after the meter. Could the meter be placed in the western landscape planter (the same planter it is
currently located in) in alignment with the center island landscape strip? Would this location subject the RPBA to
damage by vehicles? Could bumper blocks be installed to prevent this?
4) The contractor should do final restoration of all asphalt patches and install bumper blocks if needed.
Please provide additional information as requested above. Feel free to contact me should you have any
questions.
