On behalf of the Planning Division, I have reviewed the above building permit application.
During review of the subject submittal, it was found that the following information, corrections,
or clarifications need to be addressed. Please respond to the following items, so that I can
complete my review:
“Street Sign”
1.: A follow up email from April 8, 2011 indicates that the will be mounted on
4” x 4” posts. The subject property is located within the Westgate Corridor in which
monument signs are permitted, but pole signs are not. Edmonds Community Development
Code (ECDC) 20.60.005 defines monument signs as signs that have integrated the structural
component of the sign into the design of the sign and sign base. In order for the street sign to
be considered a monument sign, the base of the sign must be flush with the ground. Also
note that the location of the street sign is within the proscribed street setbacks and the overall
height of the sign cannot exceed three feet at the proposed location. For freestanding signs,
sign height is the vertical distance from the highest point of the sign area or its support to the
average elevation of undisturbed soil at the base of the supports. Please revise the plans for
the street sign to include the 4” x 4” support posts and an elevation view showing the height
of the sign from undisturbed soil.
