Soundview Apartments 614 6 Avenue N and 629 Glen Street
On behalf of the Planning Division, I have reviewed the above building permit applications.
During review of the subject submittal, it was found that the following information, corrections,
or clarifications need to be addressed. Please respond to the following items, so that I can
complete my review:
Sign Area
1.: The site of the Soundview Apartments is zoned RM-1.5 (Multi-family
Residential). Pursuant to Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC) 20.60.030.A,
the maximum area of any wall sign in a RM zone is limited to 4 square feet. The application
materials indicate the proposed “Soundview” sign is 38 inches by 183 inches, which yields a
total square footage of 48.29 square feet. The area of each individual letter may be
calculated separately, but it is still likely the sign will far exceed to 4 square feet allowed
maximum sign area. Please revise the “Soundview” wall sign so that it is no more than 4
square feet.
The site address portion of the signs are not being included in the maximum total sign area as
these are considered exempt signs pursuant to ECDC 20.60.095.B.
Sign Height
2.: Pursuant to ECDC 20.60.030.B the maximum height of any attached sign in a
RM zone is 6 feet. The base of the proposed “Soundview” sign is shown at 14 feet on the
application materials. Please reposition the “Soundview” sign so that no portion of the sign
is above 6 feet.
