Hi Katie,
Please find attached comments from the Engineering Division in review of the detention vault for
Swedish. Due to the structural nature of the review it was sent out to CG Engineering, one of our
on-call structural consultants. Please respond to the enclosed comments so review of the vault
can continue. In addition, please provide an updated signage plan that shows a sign at the
entrance to the parking lot east of the building that states “Caution – underground vault, load limit
XX”.
Thank you,
Jeanie

Chris,
The vault does not need to be designed for fire truck loading. We will ask the applicant to place
signage at the entrance of that parking area so load limits are clearly stated.
Thank you,
Jeanie

Chris,
Thank you for the follow-up. Responses to your questions are provided below:
1. I have attached a copy of the Oldcastle Precast plans as requested. My apologies there, I
thought they were sent to you with the original request.
2. I am confirming with the fire department on whether or not the vault needs to be
designed for outrigger loading.
3. The City is acceptant of the proposed height (slightly less than 7-foot clear) as long as
access manholes are provided at each end of the vault.
I’ll follow up with you on item #2 just as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Jeanie

Jeanie,
Per Greg’s voicemail, I am following up with an email regarding the information we need in order
to complete our review of the vault.
1.Please provide the Oldcastle Precast drawings including plans and details of the precast
vault walls and slab.
2.Please verify whether or not the city requires a fire truck outrigger load to be considered in
design of the vault.
3.Please verify if the vault is required to have a 7’ clear height inside for headroom (per DOE
manual).
Thanks,
Chris Bernards
