Planning Division comments for building permit file »Absolute Mortgage Sign
Greetings,
nd
illuminatedwall sign115 2Ave NBD2
Thank you for submitting a building permit application for at in the
zone. I have re-reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division and it was found that
the following information, corrections, or clarifications will need to be addressed before the Planning Division
review can continue.
1.Matrix Conditions:
ECDC 20.60.020.M.2is a requirement for signs downtownthat states: “Internally
illuminated signs in the downtown area and neighborhood commercial areas may only light the letters. The
background of a sign face may not be illuminated.”Unfortunately, this means thatthe logo may not be
illuminated. The “Absolute Mortgage”portion of the sign is compliant with theCity’s sign code; however,
the symbol above it is not because it is shown to be illuminated. We had this come up recently andwere
unable to approve the permit because thelogo was shownto beilluminated. The applicant then decidedto go
to our Architectural Design Board (ADB) to request relief from this requirement. Staff was unable to
recommend approvalof the illuminated logo, but before the meeting, the applicant withdrew their application
(PLN20130057). I just wanted to mention this in caseyou were thinking about making an application to the
ADB, which you are more than welcome to do. But I wanted to let you know up front that staff is unlikelyto
support such an application. I would be happy to chat with you further about theADB design review process
for signs. For permit approval, pleasechange the plans so that thelogo cabinets are not able to be
illuminated.
:
Please submit a written response to the above, along with any revised plans to your Permit Coordinator
Kristin Johns. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with
youon this project.
