I have reviewed the above building permit applicationfor the Planning Division,and it was found
that the following information, corrections, or clarifications will need to be addressedbefore review
can continue:
TrellisDesign:
1.Please provide a drawing and/or photo of the proposed trellis design so that
staff can confirm that the proposal is consistent with the followingdefinitions.Edmonds
Community Development Code (ECDC) 17.30.035definesatrellis as “a horizontal structure
of open lattice work designed and intended to support the growth of vines or other vegetation
or a horizontal decorative element composed of lattice work which admits light and air
through a predominantly open design.”Additionally, lattice is defined as “a framework of
cross wood or metal strips or a predominantly open framework of wood or metal designed for
decorative purposes or landscaping purposes.”
Your cover letter indicates that the purpose of the project is to provide additional privacy;
however, a trellis is intendedas a decorative element with a“predominantly open design”as
depicted in the photograph above.When providing the requested drawing and/or photo of the
proposed trellis design, please keep the above definitions in mind.

Vegetation:
2.ECDC 17.30.035.C.2 allows a trellis to be added as a decorative element toa
fence facing a street so long as the trellis remains free of any plantings, vegetationor other
visual obstruction. Please note that this will be added as a condition to your permit.
For any revised plan sheets, please submit three copies of your revised site plan (including one
reduced copy) and two copies of any revised building plan sheets to a Development Services Permit
Coordinator. Our office hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 8:00 am and
4:30 pm, and Wednesdays between 8:00 am and noon.
