Itfeatures economy, aesthetics and the lowest allowable water flow with a nominal 1"of adjustment for easier installation. The combination of the 3mm frangible glass ampule and specially designed deflector make the Model GL4906 the ultimate in life safety and fire control. It has met the strict requirements of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. as described in UL Standard,1626, for Residential Sprinklers for Fire Protection Service, and should be used accordingly. This sprinkler should also be installed in accordance with the appropriate NFPA Standard 13, 13D or 13R and under the direction of the approving authorities having jurisdiction. All that is seen at the ceiling is the 3 5116" diameter flat ceiling plate color finished to match the specifier's exact requirements. The ceiling plate is soldered to the sprinkler's special upper support assembly in three places. Upon the application of sufficient heat, the plate falls to the floor exposing the residential pendent spray sprinkler. At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the ampule exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass bulb to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern. The.Globe Quick Response GL Series Dry Type Horizontal. Sidewall Sprinkler utilizes:a 3mm frangible glass ampule as the thermosensitive element.. This provides sprinkler operation approximately six times faster than ordinary sprinklers.. At the ampule's rated temperature, the sprinkler. opens releasing the bulb seat, QUICK RESPONSE causing the .inner tube assembly to move, allowing the spring assembly to pivot DRY NON-ADJUSTABLE alongside the inner tube. At this time, water flows through the sprinkler and is .HORIZONTAL SIDEWALL :distributed. by the deflector, in an approved discharge pattern. Function - Figure 22 is intended to perform as a hanger to support only C.P.V.C.. piping used in automatic fire sprinkler systems. The product acts asa hanger when tab is upward and the fastener screw is in the horizontal position. Figure 22 can be installed on.the top of a bears, but in this 'situation acts as a guide to the piping which is supported by the beam itself. Figure 22 is not intended to support C.P.V.C. pipe from under a flat horizontal surface, such as a ceiling. For this type of installation use the Tolco Figure 23, Double Fastener Strap Hanger for C.P.V.C. Piping. Figure 22, when inverted, with the hanger tab downward, does not act as a hanger, but can function as a restrainer to prevent the upward movement of the sprinkler head during activation. Approvals - Underwriters' Laboratories listed to support fire sprinkler piping: Meets and exceeds the requirements of N,F.P.A. 13, 13R, and 13D. Features - Figure 22 incorporates features which protect the pipe and ease installation. The flared edge design* protects C.P.V.C. pipe from any rough surface. Figure 22 is easily attached to the building structure using the special hex head self threading screw** furnished with the product. It is recommended that rechargeable electric drills fitted with a hex socket attachment be used as installation tools. Pipe friction loss calculations must be made according to NFPA Standard 13. The following table shows the allowance for friction loss for fittings, expressed as equivalent length of pipe. Spears" recommends use of hangers that are designed and listed for supporting the CPVC Fire Sprinkler pipe. However, some hangers designed for steel pipe may be used if their suitability is clearly established. These hangers must have a minimum 1/2-inch, load -bearing surface, and they must be selected to accommodate the specific pipe size. In addition, they cannot contain rough or sharp edges that contact the pipe, and they must not bind the pipe from axial movement. Vertical runs must be supported so that the weight of the run is not on a fitting or a joint. Horizontal runs must be braced so that the stress loads (caused by bending or snaking pipe) will not be placed on a fitting or a joint. Support spacing is shown in the following table. See "Snaking/Deflection of Pipe" in this manual for information regarding bending or snaking CPVC Fire Sprinkler Pipe. Pipe Size Nominal inches Maximum Support Spacing feet (meters) Wt. The above hanger/support requirements must also be followed on NFPA 13D systems. CAUTION: DO NOT use hanger items such as plumber's tape or "nail -on' devices. Pipe hanger must comply with NFPA 13, 13D and 13R. When a sprinkler head activates, a significant reactive force can be exerted on the pipe. With a pendent head, this reactive force can cause the pipe to lift vertically if it is not secured properly, especially if the sprinkler drop is from small diameter pipe. The pipe must be braced against the vertical lift -up with the closest hanger. Refer to the following illustration and Table A & B. f Brace/Support. I Brace/Support Finished Ceilinq trine.
