RE: PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS FOR PLAN CHECK #BLD20161099
TH
PEDESTRIANSIGNLOCATEDAT2015AveS.#106
Dear Mr. Jantz:
I have reviewed the above pedestrian sign permit application for the Planning Division, and it was found that
the following information, corrections, or clarifications need to be addressed before review can continue:
1.
Sign Area:
The original sign permitted above the storefront was listed as being
20.88-square-feet. The total allowed sign area for the storefront is 21-square-feet
including pedestrian signs. This would have caused the pedestrian sign to be denied
based on exceeding total allowed sign area for the site. During my review, I pulled
documents from the original approval and determined the calculations were incorrect.
The revised calculation for the channel sign is 12.58-square-feet thereby allowing for a
pedestrian sign.
ECDC 20.60.025 Total maximum permanent sign area.
A.1. The maximum total permanent sign area for allowed or permitted uses in the BN, BC, BD and
CW zones shall be one square foot of sign area for each lineal foot of wall containing the main public
entrance to the primary building or structure located upon a separate legal lot.
A.5. Where permitted, pedestrian signs do count against the permanent sign area and the number of
signs permitted.
2.
Pedestrian Signs:
Please provide a site map showing where the proposed pedestrian sign will be displayed.
Pedestrian signs are limited to six-square-feet. The proposed sign is listed as 8.75-
square-feet. Please revise the sign proposal to comply with current City code.
ECDC 20.60.055 Pedestrian signs.
A.3. The sign shall be located within 10 feet of the building entry, unless it is placed in a location that
better preserves public pedestrian and vehicular access, and must be placed within two feet of the
building. Any deviations from this standard must be submitted to the architectural design board for
review and approval per ECDC 20.60.015(B)(1);
A.5. If located on or near a sidewalk, building entry or pedestrian way, the sign shall be located to
provide a minimum of five feet of clearance for pedestrians to pass;
A.7. Pedestrian signs are limited to:
a. Six square feet in area, two and one-half feet in width, and three and one-half feet in height for
A-frame or sandwich board signs; and
Please submit two copies of your site plan and two copies showing your proposed sign properly dimensioned
to a Development Services Permit Coordinator. Our office hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and
Fridays between 8:00 am 4:30 pm, and Wednesdays 8:30 am to noon.
