MONUMENT SIGN LOCATED AT 8713 220TH St. SW.
Dear Mr. Richards:
I have reviewed the above monument sign permit application for the Planning Division, and it was found that
the following information, corrections, or clarifications need to be addressed before review can continue:
1. Sign Area:
❑ The maximum allowable sign area for a freestanding sign is 24 -square -feet, excluding
the sign base. The proposed sign measures 40 -square -feet. Please redesign the sign so
the total area meets city code.
20.60.005 Definitions.
"Monument signs" are freestanding signs that have integrated the structural component of the sign
into the design of the sign and sign base.
20.60.020 General regulations forpermanent signs.
Monument sign: The base is not included in the calculation of sign area.
20.60.025 Total maximum permanent sign area.

20.60.045 Freestanding signs —Regulations.
B. Maximum Area. The maximum area of a freestanding sign shall be as follows:

The maximum um liciglit of a freestanding sign is 14 --feet unless it is located within the
setback. If a monument sign is located within the setback, it is limited to 6 -feet. Street
setbacks for a RS -8 zoned property are 25 -feet from property line. The proposed
monument sign is 17'-6" from the property line. Please either move the sign location out
of the setbacks orreduce the sign height to 6 -feet.
20.60.045 Free tandingsigns — Regulations.
D. Maximum Height. The maximum sign height of freestanding signs shall be as follows:

E. Location. Freestanding signs shall be located as close as possible to the center of the street frontage on
which they are located. Except for pole -mounted community event banners, freestanding signs may not
be located on public property. Sites on a corner of two public streets may have one sign on the corner

1 Landscaping must be included. Please indicate area to be landscaped or, if the sign
remains in the same location as the destroyed sign, show that current landscaping meets
the standards.
20.60.045 Freestanding signs —Regulations.
G. Landscaping.
1. Each freestanding sign shall have a landscaped area twice the size of the sign area at the base of the sign. The
landscaping and sign base shall be protected from vehicles by substantial curbing.
Please submit two copies of your revised site plan and sign design to a Development Services Permit
