(WC3) has completed the first review (fire only) of the fire sprinkler submittal for Westgate Village Fire Sprinkler located at 10032 Edmonds Way, Edmonds, WA. Our review was based upon the following submittal documents:Fire sprinkler plans dated 1/20/2018 by Advanced Fire.Hydraulic calculations.Sway brace calculations.Material specifications. The Washington State Building and Fire Code as currently adopted, and its referenced standards were used as the basis of our review. Our comments follow on the attached list. Ft. GENERAL INFORMATION: The plans for the above-mentioned project have been reviewed. The following comments address areas of concern, non-compliance with the governing code, potential errors, or omissions in the proposed design. The appropriate design professional must address each comment below and submit a written response in addition to revised plans and calculations if necessary. Please cloud any revisions made to the construction drawings and provide the date of the latest revision on each revised sheet.FIRE COMMENTS:Hydraulic Nodes: Please indicate the hydraulic nodes on the system riser diagrams for all applicable system nodes.Water Flow Test Data: It appears no reductions in the flow data have been provided to account for seasonal or daily fluctuations as a result of increased demands or changes in the operation of the water system. Fire sprinkler designer to verify that such fluctuations have been accounted for.Hydraulic Calculations: Several of the calculations indicate the most demanding heads are either at minimum PSI or minimum GPM (Node 107; Node 302; Node 500; Node 600; Node 807). Node 915 appears to be below the minimums for both PSI and GPM. Please verify the system calculations and ensure that fluctuations have been accounted for as indicated in comment F2.Standpipe: Please state on the plans which classification of standpipe is being provided (class I, II, III).CPVC Seismic Bracing: Seismic bracing shall be provided on all feed and cross mains regardless of size as required by NFPA 13 section 9.3.5.5.1 and on all branch line pipe 2 ½ inches and larger per NFPA 13 section 9.3.5.6. Please revise the plans to indicate the required bracing.Trash Chute: Clarify if the building has a trash chute and if the fire suppression system will protect the trash chute. Provide a detail for the trash chute (termination room to roof detail showing chute and fire sprinkler locations). Sheet FP3 appears to indicate a trash chute.Dry System H2O Time: The dry pipe system size must be designed such that initial water is discharged from the system test connection in not more than 60 seconds, starting at the normal air pressure on the system and at the time of fully opened inspection test connection. Place a note on the plans indicating the required water delivery time as outlined by NFPA 13 section 7.2.3.6.1. [2013 NFPA 7.2.3.2; 7.2.3.6.1]Dry System Valve Room: Please confirm the following requirements are being met for the valve room of the dry pipe system as required in 2013 NFPA 13 7.2.5.2:The valve room must be lighted and heated. The source of heat must be of a permanently installed type.Heat tape cannot be used in lieu of heated valve enclosures to protect the dry pipe valve and supply pipe against freezing. The supply for the fire sprinklers protecting the Valve Room Enclosure, must be connected on the dry side of the system. General Information Sign: Fire sprinkler contractor to provide a general information sign as required by section 25.6 of NFPA 13 for each fire sprinkler riser to indicate the system design basis and information relevant to the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements required by NFPA 25. [NFPA-13:25.6] General Information Sign: Fire sprinkler contractor to provide a general information sign as required by section 25.6 of NFPA 13 for each fire sprinkler riser to indicate the system design basis and information relevant to the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements required by NFPA 25.
