Project Address: 21940 Highway 99, Suite B
Project: Patty's Eggnest type I hood
Scope: Install type I hood/makeup air for commercial kitchen — nonseparated IBC

sprinkler system — fire suppression system under separate permit
Please be advised that the building plans for the above referenced project have been disapproved
for the purposes of obtaining a building permit. During a review of the plans by the Building
Division for compliance with the applicable building codes, it was found that the following
information, clarifications, or changes are needed. Reviews by other divisions, such as Planning,
Engineering, or Fire, may result in additional comments that require attention beyond the scope of
this letter.
A complete review cannot be performed until the revised plans/documents, including a
written response in itemized letter format indicating where the `clouded' or otherwise
highlighted changes can be found on the revised plans, have been submitted to a Permit
Coordinator. Only those sheets specifically referenced as follows need to be resubmitted.
Resubmittals must be made at the Development Services Department on the 2nd Floor of City Hall.
Permit Center hours are M, T, Th, & F from 8am-4:30pm and from 8:30am-12pm on Wednesdays.
On sheet M1.0 — Project Data — Site Plan / Roof Plan — Equipment Plan:
1. Floor Plan - Provide on the plans information regarding the proposed required equipment
access per International Mechanical Code (IMC) 306.5. Details should include the access
hatch and its location (or other means to be used) and the equipment access ladder (or other
means to be used) and its location.
On sheet M2.0 — Hood Plan — Hood Elevation — Shaft / Wrap Detail:
2. Front Elevation
a. Clarify on the plans the indicated extent of the application of the specified material
to be used as a field -applied grease duct enclosure. It does not comply with the
requirements of IMC 506.3.11.2 or reflect that required by the manufacturer when
evaluated in accordance with ASTM E 2336.
b. Clarify on the plans the indicated function of the makeup air duct at the front of the
Type I hood.
c. Change on the plans the IMC reference regarding the canopy location from `507.12'
to `507.4.1'.
3. Side Elevation
a. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated model number, weight, voltage,
`FLA', and RPM of `Fan #1' and of that specified on the `Front Elevation' and on
the `Fan Information' on sheet `M3.0'.
b. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated weight, horsepower, voltage,
`FLA', and RPM of `Fan #2' and of that specified on the `Front Elevation' and on
the `Fan Information' on sheet `M3.0'.
c. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated size of the grease duct and of that
specified on the `Front Elevation'.
d. Change on the plans the IMC section reference regarding the clearance to
combustibles of a grease duct from `506.3.10' to `506.3.11.1'.
e. Clarify on the plans the indicated extent of the application of the specified material
to be used as a field -applied grease duct enclosure. It does not comply with the
requirements of IMC 506.3.11.2 or reflect that required by the manufacturer when
evaluated in accordance with ASTM E 2336.
f. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated size of the grease duct riser and of
that specified on the `Front Elevation'.
g. Change on the plans the IMC section references regarding the compensating makeup
airflow from `506.3.10' and `507.4' to `508.2'.
h. Change on the plans the IMC section reference regarding the mounting position of
the grease filters from `507.11.2' to `507.2.8.2'.
i. Change on the plans the IMCC section reference regarding the clearances for Type I
hoods from `506.3.10' to `507.2.6'.
j. Clarify on the plans the indicated type of material used to construct the `demising
wall (existing)'. It does not appear to correspond with that completed under permits
`BLD2015-0520'. The `existing' wall was constructed using 2x6 wood studs and
requires that every portion of the Type I hood to be, at a minimum, 18 inches from
the combustible construction unless a clearance to combustibles reduction method is
utilized to reduce the required distance, or a wall framed with noncombustible
materials may be installed per IMC 507.2.6 in front of the `existing' wall.
k. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated model number of the Type I hood
and of that specified on the `Front Elevation' and on the `Hood Information' on sheet
`M3.0'.
1. Change on the plans the IMC reference regarding the canopy location from `507.12'
to `507.4.1'.

4. Notes
a. Note 12 — Change on the plans the IMC section reference regarding the operation of
the Type I hood from `507.2.1.1' to `507.1.1'.
b. Add to the list of provided notes on the plans information regarding the required
label indicating the minimum exhaust flow rate in CFM per linear foot of hood based
on the defined cooking appliance duty classification per IMC 507.2.1.
c. Add to the list of provided notes on the plans information regarding the required
`performance test' per IMC 507.6.
On sheet M3.0 — Hood Detail Plan:
Plan View
a. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated model number of the Type I hood
and of that specified on the `Hood Information' and on the `Front Elevation' on sheet
`M2.0' .
b. Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated width of the Type I hood and of
that specified on the `Section View' and on the `Side Elevation' on sheet `M2.0'.
6. Section View - Clarify on the plans the difference in the indicated model number of the
Type I hood and of that specified on the `Hood Information' and on the `Front Elevation' on
sheet `M2.0'.
On sheet FW-1 — Fire Wrap Manufacturer Specifications/Install Manual:
Eliminate from the plans the provided information regarding the installation of `3M Fire
Barrier Duct Wrap 615' as a field -applied grease duct enclosure. The use of the product has
not been evaluated in accordance with ASTM E 2336 by the manufacturer.
Provide on the plans as part of a complete submittal updated/current manufacturers
installation requirements for the use of `3M Fire Barrier Duct Wrap 615+' as a field -applied
grease duct enclosure to guide proper installation and inspection.
Regarding the provided `Seismic Bracing and Equipment Supports' information prepared by CJR
Engineering:
9. Incorporate into the plans the specified construction for the support of the Type I hood and
the makeup air unit to guide proper installation and inspection. The sheet(s) representing the
details must be `stamped/sealed' by the project engineer per Revised Code of Washington
(RCW) 18.43.070.
