BUILDING OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO LETTER 7-14-06.pdfIn C.1S90 CITY OF EDMONDS 121 STH AVENUE NORTH • EDMONDS, WA 98020 • (425) 771-0220 • FAX (425) 771-0221 Website: www.ci.edmonds.wa.us DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT Planning • Building • Engineering Mr. & Mrs. Howard Wilson Wilson Investments 403 Howell Way Edmonds, Washington 98020 RE: 401-409 Howell Way Dear Mr. & Mrs. Wilson, GARY HAAKENSON MAYOR July 14, 2006 As you may recall last year I sent you a letter regarding plans for the building you own at Howell Way in Edmonds. Mr. Wilson was kind enough to promptly telephone me and inform us that you did not have plans for the building. In that letter 1 mentioned that the Fire Marshal believed a fire wall was breached with a door and we were searching for current building plans. The City has confirmed that the fire wall between Community Support Solutions and the tenant space to the south was breached with a door. Also during plan review of Community Support Solutions it has also been noted that interior office walls and toilet room have been created without first obtaining a City permit. In speaking with Mr. Sean Monahan of Community Support Solutions we believe that a former tenant most likely performed this work without a permit. Mr. Monahan has provided the City with a copy of a letter written to you dated 6119106 (copy enclosed for your convenience) that indicates he is turning the matter over to you as the building owners/responsible party in this matter. Under our State adopted Building Code laws there is no statue of limitations on the necessity of obtaining building permits. Even though the work may have been performed without your expressed approval or knowledge the City is obligated to require and issue a building permit. This is especially true when a life -safety fire code violation exists such as this case with the breach in the fire wall. Enclosed please find copies of communications to date between the City and Community Support Solutions. Please enlist the services of a State Licensed Architect within 30 days date of this letter to submit the required detailed plans needed in order to file for and issue a building permit for the prior work. If you have any questions or if you need more time to respond please feel free to contact me during City office hours of 9:00am to noon and 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday at 425-771-0220 extension 1226.
