building response to applicant proposal.pdf Good afternoon, There appears to be questions regarding the following plan review comment: On sheet M1.1 – Side Elevation/Front Elevation: 1.Exhaust Fan/Hood Information – Clarify the exhaust capacity of the proposed exhaust fan/hood. It does not appear to meet the requirements of International Mechanical Code (IMC) 507.13.3 or that calculated using the City of Edmonds ‘Commercial Kitchen Hood Worksheet’ – see attached. The proposal in response to the review comment appears to be the submittal of an ‘air balance report’ in lieu of sizing the hood per IMC 507.13 or by using the City of Edmonds ‘Commercial Kitchen Hood Worksheet”. The proposal cannot be accepted for the following reason: An ‘air balance report’ measures the operating performance of the system after the installation is · complete, without identifying the minimum standard to be met. If the system fails to provide the minimum required CFM per linear feet of hood established using IMC 507.13, additional work will have to be done. As submitted, the proposal does not indicate that the proposed installation will meet the minimum requirements (the baseline for an ‘air balance report’). The required minimum capacity of the hood is determined by IMC 507.13 or by the allowances of an installation meeting the requirements of UL710, not by the manufacturer. If the proposal for an installation of a Type I hood that is not part of a UL710 installation fails to meet the minimum requirements of IMC 507.13, the proposal will not be accepted. Once a proposed installation meeting the minimum requirements of IMC 507.13 is received, approved, and installed, a performance test per IMC 507.16 (similar to the proposed ‘air balance report’) is required to be performed before final inspection approval of the installation can be given. A ‘capture and containment test’ per IMC 507.16.1 is also required to be performed after all of the appliances are installed and operating at working temperature.
