Subject: RESUBMITTAL - Necessity of Portable Classrooms at Sherwood Elementary School
To whom it may concern,
In response to the City of Edmonds Municipal Code 17.100 Community Facilities, paragraph L. Schools,
the Edmonds School District has a need for two portable classrooms at Sherwood Elementary School to
support capacity needs related to a state mandated reduction in class sizes (student/ teacher ratio).
Sherwood Elementary's current student population is 471. The design capacity of Sherwood Elementary
is 380 with 20 built classrooms, all of which are occupied. One portable classroom was added last year
to support reduced class sizes for a student teacher ratio of 25:1 down to 20:1. The student population
at Sherwood continues to increase creating the need for additional classroom space.
In order to successfully accomplish the educational mission and objectives of the District in accordance
with applicable state and federal statues, regulation and guidelines, the District would like to provide
two additional portable classrooms to provide the appropriate classroom space to accommodate
reduced class sizes.
I hope this helps better support the need for two portable classrooms. Please don't hesitate with any
questions regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
d
