Schools, the Edmonds School District has a need for one portable classroom at Chase Lake Elementary School due to a state mandated reduction in class, sizes (lower student / teacher ratios) or the number of students allowed per classroom primarily at the kindergarten thru third grade levels. Chase Lake, Elementary School has recently been, designated as a high poverty school (over 50% free and reduced lunch). The state guidelines, for high poverty schools has an even lower student / teacher ratio than non -high poverty schools. Chase Lake has 25 built classrooms, alll of which are occupied (see chart below). The current student teacher ratio at the lower grade levels is approximately 25 students to 1 teacher, Next school year additional staff will be hired in an effort to reduce class sizes down to approximately 20 students to 1 teacher. This creates the, need for additional classroom space, Number of Classrooms per Grade Level (25 Total Classrooms) Developmental Kindergarden 2 Sixth Grade Pre-Kindergarden 1 Learning Support Kindergarden 3 Special Ed First Grade 2 ELL Second Grade 2 orchestra / Support Third Grade 2 Childcare & OT/PT Fourth Grade Fifth Grade In order to successfully accomplish the educational mission and objectives of the District in accordance with applicable state and federal statues, regulation and guidelines, the District would like to provide one add''itionall portable classrooms to provide the appropriate classroom space to accommodate reduced class sizes, - OUR MISSION - To ADVOCAFE For all students by PROVIDING a learning environment which EMPOWERS students, staff and the community to MAXIMIZE their personal, creative and academic potential in order to BECOME I ireāž¢ong Itarners and responsible world citizens.
