Sean,
Thank you for taking my call this morning regarding our continued concern
with the proposed Verizon tower being installed in front of our house. Our
concerns have been consistent since hearing of this proposal last year. To
remind you of our worries, please review our past email below.
We understand that Verizon wants to use an existing utility pole great
concerns regarding the pole in front of our house. At the top of our list
is the potential for radiation and increased cancer rates among children.
All we have been told is that it is "below the legal limit." Please, help
us to understand if these towers emit radiation? If so, does proximity
matter? For example, the closer we are the greater the exposure? As people
who've lost both parents to cancer at a young age we are so very concerned
and could never live with ourselves if we put our kids at an increased
risk of cancer (this pole is merely a few feed from our children's
bedrooms). Vicky, you are copied because perhaps you have already done
your research and feel comfortable with the plan? I'm sure Klahaya would
not intentionally put its families at risk, do you have some information
that will help ease our concern?
Further down the list but still pertinent are our concerns regarding noise
from the installed unit, property value decrease (due to the perceived
risk of cancer and it being visually dis-pleasing), and safety as the pole
has the potential to block our vision getting out of our driveway.
You and I discussed a few alternate locations:
1. the tower at the end of 238th across from the gas station by the former
dentist office because that location is behind a fence, does not block
vision, is not at a home or near a residence and is an existing pole. You
mentioned that the tower has been permitted for a number of years and you
thought it was not the same kind of tower that Verizon needed, we urge you
to have them reconsider.
2. We discussed the pole in front of the cemetery located across the
street where the "residents/homeowners" are not going to be bothered by
the noise, there are already existing power poles, the rays from the tower
are not located outside the bedrooms of children and visibility is not
impeded, we are interested in learning why that is not a potential
option?
At the end of the day, I would ask yourself... would you raise your children
in a house that is only a few feet from a radiation emitting tower with
1
known cancer risks? From our vantage point, the few who stand to
financially benefit from this pole are choosing money over the health of
our children and ultimately driving us out of our brand new home. This is
NOT and Edmonds kind of day.
Scared,
Shannon and Angie

Sean, writing to continue to express our concerns over the proposed Verizon cell tower going up in our
neighborhood. I've copied Vicky Jaquish, Klahaya Board President. As we've expressed in the past (beginning
with our initial correspondence on March 1'l, 2015) we have some very strong concern about this being put in
our neighborhood; specifically as it relates to the potential of causing cancer. If one was to search the internet
about this concern you would find some very scary things. Our hope is that Verizon can ensure us that they've
done the proper testing and that this in fact is not a concern.
You may have seen that other neighborhoods have similar concerns. Most recently this article ran regarding
the Medina neighborhoods concern with a cell tower.

West Seattle is also protesting and in this article they quote that these have been proven to increase the risk of
cancer to kids by 3 times!

Vicky we are all for supporting the club and do our best to be great neighbors. In face we are #72 on your
current waiting list, we attend the swim meets and do our best to support. We do not want to interfere with your
potential to profit from such cell tower, that said we ask that you help us get answers that mitigate our
concerns for the health and safety of our family.
Thanks so much for your continued support,
Angie and Shannon

Ms. Burley -
I have attached photo simulations of what the antennas on the new pole would look like. For existing utility
poles that would look similar to what is proposed, I can think of two. Both are on Main Street, the first is on the
north side of Main Street just west oll" the intersection with Maplewood Drive. The second is on the south side
of Main Street just east of the intersection \vith, 88th Place W. At this point please continue to send any
comments or issues to me. Once I have all the information I need to write up a report, a decision will be issued
and I will send you a copy. At this time my guess is any decision will not happen in the next few weeks.
Thanks

Hello Sean,
I was born and raised in Edmonds WA on robin hood drive (bordering Hickman park) my grandmother owns
that house and still lives there, and my husband, son and I live about half a mile away frequenting that area and
Hickman park regularly year round despite weather. I am extremely concerned and disappointed hearing there is
talk of another cell tower coming into that area near Klahaya (which is filled with children during summer) and
Hickman park which is also busy year round, including rainy days we see kids there often. I've done some
reading and been informed that cancer risks from radiation are triple in areas surrounding cell towers and would
hate to have to avoid what has become our favorite park due to these concerns. I would never want to endanger
our almost two year old by frequenting an area that has a higher risk then other parks. And I am concerned
about the location they are planning on putting up a 60 ft cell tower. I will be looking into petitioning via
signatures and if there is a city signature limit that could overturn this please let me know the number.
Thank you,
Laura

Dear Mr. Conrad,
This is a note in regards to the cell tower near Forest Glen.
I have an illness that makes me sensitive to EMF's. The lack of strong EMF's in the area was one of the appealing
features to buying our home. Here are a few articles in regards to EMF's. Unfortunately the US is behind the international
community in regards to this health hazard. I encourage you to check out international research in this arena before
making any decision in regards to the cell tower possibly going in near our home.

My comments on the proposed cell tower in Hickman Park would be:
Keep the park a park, not utility real estate.
The park is used by kids, dogs, the elderly, and lots and lots of birds. Beautiful open space, with
green grass and lovely trees are hard to come by in our busy and growing area. Let's keep it that
way! No to the cell tower.
By the way, I live just up the street, and my cell reception is just fine now.

Subject: Veriozon Utility Pole on 238th Street
Hello Mr. Conrad,
I live near the proposed cell phone tower that Verizon would like to install on 238th Street. There are
already telecommunications towers in the area. I don't see the need for another tower in a residential
area.
Additionally, the drawings and materials for this project do not illustrate how the proposed tower may
impact the new sidewalk that was just installed by the City of Edmonds. The photos of the site were
taken before the pedestrian, improvements were made to 238th street. Its unclear if the proposed cell
phone tower would cause any obstructions to the new sidewalk based on the current materials.
Thank you,
Danielle
