Building Division Comments #2007-0481
Subject:
Warren,
During re-review of Compass Courses Maritime Training T.I., item #6 was not addressed as required by the code. As we
discussed at the counter, so that existing buildings slowly gain compliance to current accessibility codes, when
improvements are made IBC 3409.6 exception 1 allows the costs of accessibility compliance to not exceed 20% of the bid
(versus full compliance to the current accessibility codes). You will need to show on the plans what accessible upgrades
will be done to equal at least 20% of the bid ($5,438.00 provided to us). You will also need to provide a letter (stamped
and signed) stating what parts of the site and tenant space are not accessible, state the project cost and what 20% of it
equals, list what upgrades will be done as part of this permit as well as showing that the total costs of the upgrades is at
least 20%. At the counter the other day we talked about partial upgrade of the restrooms. Please submit as soon as
possible to Theresa Umbaugh, Permit Coordinator, so that we can complete our review.
Sincerely,
Ann Bullis
