The above referenced project is in the process of plan review for compliance with
Edmonds
ordinances and applicable codes. The following comments,
deficiencies/corrections must be addressed prior to completion of plan review and
subsequent issuance of permits.
Provide revised plans and calculations along with a written response to each of the items
listed below to facilitate a shorter back-check time.
A response to correction must be provided to the city within 90 days of the date of
this letter or the permit application may be cancelled without notice.
SCOPE OF REVIEW

The project was reviewed for compliance with the State of Washington Building Codes.
All features were checked only to the extent allowed by the submittals provided. All
portions of this project are assumed to meet or will meet other departmental requirements,
conditions and concerns before permit approval.
FIRE COMMENTS
General
1.Please confirm that the new piping will not penetrate any existing fire-rated
assemblies, and if it does specify how the requirements of Section 714 of the IBC
will be met.

2.Please confirm that the solenoid valve is compatible with the FCP as required by
Section 7.3.1.1 of NFPA 13.
3.No information regarding the proposed “release system” for this double-interlock
preaction system has been provided (see Section 7.3.1.6 of NFPA 13). Please
clarify.
4.Hydraulic calculations were not provided. Please provide supporting
documentation for the system specified and ensure that the requirements of
Sections 7.2.3.6 and 11.2.3.2.5 of NFPA 13 have been met.
5.Please note the supervision requirements of Section 7.3.2.4.1 of NFPA 13.
Sheet FP-1:
6.The following items are not provided on the plans as prescribed by Section 23.1.3
of NFPA 13…
a.A description of the scope of work.
b.The occupancy hazard classification is not listed.
c.Water supply test information (see Section 23.2.1 of NFPA 13).
d.While sway bracing and hanger information have been provided, the
required spacing has not been listed for either and sway bracing
calculations have not been provided. In addition, the required embedment
of the anchors supporting the hangers has not been provided.
e.Kind and location of alarm bells.
7.Please address the following with regards to the “Manifold Detail” shown…
a.Show that drains meet the discharge requirements of Section 8.16.2.4.4.
b.The material data provides preaction valve information for 2-inch to 8-inch
valve trim yet it appears that two of these preaction valves will be used on
1.5-inch supply pipes. Please clarify.
c.No information regarding the pipe stands and anchorage has been provided
(see Section 9.2.6 of NFPA 13).
8.Please clarify on the plans that the new 4-inch supply riser shall be supported in
accordance with Section 9.2.5 of NFPA 13.

9.Please confirm that the preaction valve room is both lighted and heated in
accordance with Section 7.3.1.8.2 of NFPA 13.
10.While inspector test locations are shown, please clarify that they shall meet the
requirements of Section 8.17.4.4 of NFPA 13.
Additional corrections may be required following receipt of corrections and additional
information as requested.
Your plans may also be reviewed concurrently by other departments within the City of
Edmonds. Changes, clarifications or additional corrections may be required subsequent to
the reviews performed by these other departments.
