Hello, Leif,
We have revisited the moving of Northwest's Child into our facility, and we have decided to do so beginning this summer if feasible. We will need the certificate of Occupancy, then.
The director of the school says it's an E occupancy that we need. She will be working on the licensing, and they have a licensor that they are working with.
If you still have our file, the room that they will move into is the large room downstairs on the south-east corner of the building. That room also includes an office, a storage area,
and a closet. Is this enough information to get you started?
Thank you for your help,
Hallack Greider

Hallack,
It sounds like you will not need a building permit, since you are proposing the same category of occupancy as is there now. NWC will need a city business license, however, which can
be obtained through the city clerk’s office at city hall. When they apply for the business license, they will need to turn in a simple floor plan of the space, which I suggest may be
based on the floor plan used for the 2007 building permit. If you need to obtain a copy of this floor plan, you may contact one of our permit coordinators in the building department.
As for the C of O letter, you may respond to this email with a formal request, and I will get started on it. Please describe clearly the area of the building that the letter should
address. When it is ready to be picked up, you will be contacted by our office and asked to come in to fill out an application and pay the fee for the letter. Let me know if you have
any questions.

Leif,
Here is what Darcy said about her students:
We take a maximum of 12 students, but average about 10. The ages range from 5 years to 21 years old and all students are disabled. We are licensed and regulated through DEL (Department
of Early Learning).

Pastor Greider,
I apologize for not getting right back to you on this question. If I recall correctly, I had advised Dayle that the City does not have a C of O on file for your building, but that
we do have enough information in our files to justify the designation of the existing preschool area as an E (education) occupancy, based on the 2007 building permit to add a closet
in the preschool room. This information would allow me to generate a letter in lieu of a C of O. I believe I mentioned to Dayle there would be a $250 fee charged for this letter.
As far as Northwest’s Child occupying the same space in the building where the preschool is currently located, there may be no need for building permits as long as they meet the definition
of an E occupancy and no remodeling is needed. There are several types of arrangements that fit within the E category. Can you tell me the ages and number of children that would be
in the NWC program? In particular, children younger than 2 ½ and those older than 2 ½.
Thanks,
Leif Bjorback

Subject: certificate of occupancy
Hello Leif,
This is Hallack Greider, the pastor at Maplewood Presbyterian Church. It's been a few months since we have engaged the issue of securing a Certificate of Occupancy (or whatever is
needed) to have Northwest's Child use a downstairs room in our facility for their school for disabled children.
We haven't pursued this for a couple reasons, mostly because Northwest's Child found a temporary location. The possible renting of space at Maplewood is back on the table, though,
and I'd like to re-engage this conversation. But with a different room we are considering for them to use: the larger room downstairs, south of the stairs, that is currently being
used for a non-licensed preschool.
My question is: if the preschool vacated that space, what would need to happen in order to get the Certificate of Occupancy for Northwest's Child?
Thank you. I am out of the office on Fridays, but will check email over the weekend and will be back in the office on Monday. The church's phone number is (425) 778-5248.
