I confirmed with Planning staff during our staff meeting today that deck joists projecting out of the side
of the house do not meet the definition of an eave. Since we do not have a definition of "eave" in the
ECDC, we default to the Merriam -Webster dictionary definition, which is as follows:
Definition of eave
I : the lower border of a roof that overhangs the wall usually used in plural
2 :a projecting edge (as of a hill) usually used in plural
