(Farallon) has prepared this letter to summarize the scope of work that will be conducted in the right-of-way on the northeast corner of the intersection of 5th Avenue South and Maple Street related to the Old Milltown Property at 201 5th Avenue South in Edmonds, Washington (herein referred to as the Site) (Figure 1). Previous investigations at the Site have confirmed the release of petroleum hydrocarbons to soil and groundwater from suspected source areas on the Site. Farallon conducted a geophysical survey of a suspected underground storage tank (UST) proximate to the southwest corner of the Site on September 20, 2010. The results of the geophysical survey identified two subsurface anomalies that may represent potential USTs located proximate to the southwest corner of the Site (Figure 2). The purpose of the scope of work described below is to further investigate and evaluate the two geophysical .anomalies for the potential presence of USTs to support development and implementation of a permanent cleanup action for the Site. The scope of work includes evaluation of the two geophysical anomalies for the potential presence of USTs proximate to the southwest corner of the Site by advancing three air -knife borings. The location and rationale for the borings are as follows: • Two borings will be advanced in the sidewalk proximate to the geophysical anomaly identified on the north side of Maple Street to assess the potential presence of a UST; and EAProjeatsM I Cascade Bank1721007 Old MiNown Property\Working Foldei,City or Edmonds Permit App Ltr,doex City of Edmonds November 2, 2010 Page 2 One boring will be advanced in the sidewalk proximate to the geophysical anomaly identified on the east side of 5'' Avenue South to assess the potential presence of a UST. Traffic, control plans for each of the locations are provided as an attachment, Prior to conducting the subsurface investigation activities, Farallon will retain both public and private utility locating services to clear each boring location and provide additional information pertaining to the locations of subsurface utilities at the Site. Preliminary boring locations are depicted on Figure, 2. Each boring will be advanced to a depth of approximately 8 feet below ground surface using air -knife techniques. The three borings will require concrete coring of the sidewalk. If USTs are identified during the evaluation, each borehole will be backfilled and patched with concrete until a UST Site Assessment has been completed and closure options have been selected. If USTs are not identified during the evaluation, each borehole will be backfilled and patched with concrete until final restoration is made. Final sidewalk restoration will be made in accordance with City of Edmonds codes. f1 4;. 111 I Please contact the undersigned at (425) 295-0800 if you have questions or require additional information.
