Breske, P.E., to City of Edmonds, July 18, 2012 (Letter with attachments) Pump System Report for 114 Caspers Street, Edmonds Wa, Single Family Residence, prepared by Donna L. Breske, P.E. for Marsha & Eric Miller. July 12, 2012 Sheet 1 Storm Drain Routing and Pump System for 114 Caspers Street, Edmonds , WA98020, July 26, 2012. 1.The first page of the letter with attachment states that a Royal Kor pipe will be used as a pump basin and eliminate the need for concrete ballast for buoyancy concerns. No calculations are provided in support of this. Also, the “Pump System Report” includes buoyancy calculations for a concrete collar around the base of the pump basin. Please clarify which approach will be used.If the Royal Kor pipe is proposed, provide calculation that show a concrete collar at the base is not required. 2.The pipe headloss is calculated using 40 feet of 3/4” discharge line. The plans show 45 feet of 3/4” discharge line plusapproximately 3.4 feet for 1.5 inch discharge line. The pumps discharge rate should be calculated using the pipe headloss for the 45 feet of 3/4” discharge line plus approximately 3.4feet for 1.5 inch discharge line. 3.Per the City of Edmonds Engineering Division Policy ENGR-DEV(STM)-2011-02, item 7., an overflow path must be designed so that a power outage or other pump failure does not result in flooding of a building or an emergency access, erosion or sedimentation downstream, or slope failure. Please provide this information. DATE E-MAILED8/6/2012PAGE __1__ OF _1__ 4.On detail 1, show where the discharge pipe changes from 1.5 inch to 0.75 inch. Also, include the elevation of the centerline of the discharge line. 5.On the plan sheet the extruded curb next to the proposed 6 inch DI pipe will need to be replaced. Add note to plan sheet. Additionally, please take note of/address the following: 1.As noted above, it has been determined that the extruded curb is in such a deteriorated condition that integrity of the curb cannot be maintained during trenching and installation of the storm line in the flow line. As such, the curb willneed to be removed and replaced with the storm main extension. Please call out this requirement on plan sheet and reference City standard detail E2.7. 2.The initial proposal included connection to an old brick manhole. During a field meeting it was determined that connection to a north/south storm main crossing, via installation of a new CB, would be an option the City would consider. The latest submittal shows the design as such and calls out this north/south main line as clay pipe. Taking this into consideration along with the fact that the elevations provided areinterpolated (and without the benefit of a straight line from structure to structure), staff has determined that connection to the brick manhole is the option we would approve. Please revise plans to show the layout consistent with the original submittal, but with updated invert elevations to match the revised on-site storm system layout. a.You might also consider replacing the existing curb inlet with a standard Type I catch basin and chasing the existing pipe between inlet and brick manhole to a point where you could get needed elevations andconnect to the existing pipe with a fernco instead of going into the brick manhole. b.The water main crossing will need to be potholed prior to construction to verify no utility conflicts exist. It was also pointed out that the gas crossing in this location is of concern. Potholing efforts could address both at the same time. 3.Please provide a traffic control plan that addresses both the sidewalk closure and disruption to the travel lane during construction. Please resubmit 3 copies of the revised pages to my attention.
