Subject: Necessity of Portable Classrooms at Westgate Elementary School
To whom it may concern,
In response to the City of Edmonds Municipal Code 17.100 Community Facilities, paragraph L. Schools,
the Edmonds School District has a need for two additional portable classrooms at Westgate Elementary
School to support capacity needs related to a state mandated reduction in class sizes (student / teacher
ratio).
Westgate Elementary's current student population is 481. The design capacity of Westgate Elementary
is 380 with 20 built classrooms, all of which are occupied. Two portable classrooms were added last
year to support reduced class sizes for a student teacher ratio of 25:1 down to 20:1. The student
population at Westgate continues to increase creating the need for additional classroom space.
In order to successfully accomplish the educational mission and objectives of the District in accordance
with applicable state and federal statues, regulation and guidelines, the District would like to provide
two additional single portable classrooms to provide the appropriate classroom space to accommodate
reduced class sizes and general capacity.
I hope this helps support the need for two portable classrooms. Please don't hesitate with any
questions regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Matt Finch
