Edmonds, WA. Deadline for Public Comments: 6-4-09 Where 240`" S.W. Crosses Edmonds Wa Dear Mr. Clugston: I a.m. a retired nurse, writing to express my concern for the automobile safety of these precious small children as they are dropped off and picked up at the proposed preschool/daycare, that may be housed in the fairly new Korean United Presbyterian Church. Built on the side of a hill, it's property seems to extend to extend right down to 240th S.W. and Edmonds Way. Clearly, that intersection will be heavily used as an access by patrons of this new and needed preschool. At present, East and West access is accomplished only by waiting at a Stop Sign, before approaching Edmonds Way_ Living nearby, I can tell you that it is quite a dangerous intersection for mere neighbors, yet alone for constant, daily use for entrance and egress for a new and probably thriving business. I have been told, there have even been one or two fatal collisions as cars attempted to access the streets involved. If Ok is given for this business to proceed, (and I think it should,) it should ONLY be with an accompanying installation of a red light/green light signal at the intersection of 240 S.W. and Edmonds Way. Otherwise, I heartily object! The problem lies with the cars approaching that intersection very fast, as they whip around under the Highway 99 overpass, having come from the East, off of Ballinger Way/205th and heading toward Edmonds. They really pick up speed and are not prepared to slow down as they approach an intersection they weren't expecting. The cars corning up Edmonds Way from the Ferry Dock/City Cntr. area have been slowed down by two nearby lights on Edmonds Way, before they reach 240uh. I see a clear risk for serious automobile collisions, if a signal is not installed, Before the preschool and daycare is allowed to open. There will be parents dropping off their. wee ones and pre-schoolers, morning and night and using that intersection as access_ In addition, there will likely be aging grandparents and perhaps young family members or babysitters, dropping off these children. Safety must be considered and insured! Sincerely, Exhibit 16 Yunhap Preschool (CU --69-02)
