Dear Homeowner,
This letter is intended to provide notification to several neighbors who live immediately
adjacent to the parcels that experienced a significant landslide this morning on and adjacent to
the residence at 16109 73rd Place West.
In addition to the first responders from the Fire Department, PUD, and PSE, the City of
Edmonds Public Works and Building departments also sent staff to the site. The City also
engaged the geotechnical firm of Landau Associates to provide an initial on -site assessment of
the apparent hazards posed to individuals and property, and assist in determining an
appropriate response to the situation. Landau Associates has preliminarily concluded that while
there is risk for additional landslide activity in the neighborhood (as there was prior to today's
landslide), the risk does not warrant restrictions on the occupancy of any of the surrounding
homes. Of course, owners are free to engage a geotechnical engineering firm(s) to evaluate in
detail the landslide risk associated with the surrounding properties in light of today's event and
develop appropriate mitigation measure recommendations, if necessary.
At this time, the City knows of no reason to place restrictions on the occupancy of any of the
surrounding homes.
Thank you,
Leif Bjorback, Building Official
