Construction Monitoring By: EAF
We visited the site today at the request of Jeff Sterling to observe construction activities at the site.
Upon arrival to the site, we met with the contractors Winston and James to discuss the daily plans. We were
informed that they planned to install an additional 9 pin piles today.
The pin piles consisted of 2-inch diameter, schedule 80, galvanized steel, which were cut into 5.3-foot lengths and
connected with steel internal slip couplers. We monitored as the pin piles were driven with a 140-pound pneumatic
post -driver to a refusal criterion of one inch or less of vertical movement in sixty seconds of continuous driving.
Pin piles observed to be installed today were driven to a complete stop or at least one inch or less of vertical
movement in 60 seconds of continuous driving. The depths to refusal and corresponding pile numbers are listed in
the table below. The depths are measured from the top of the foundation footing where present. The piles driven
observed installed today appear to have been suitably installed and should support the planned loads.

We have been providing monitoring of pile installation on a full-time basis. Our findings and conclusions are based
on specific observations made while on site. We will continue to monitor the installation of underpinning at the site.

We visited the site today at the request of Jeff Sterling to observe construction activities at the site.
Upon arrival to the site, we met with Jeff Sterling. We were informed that the majority of the interior slab -on -
grade had been removed from the common areas and the underlying soils had been exposed. The subgrade was
compacted with a jumping jack compactor. We evaluated the proposed slab subgrade with a 0.5 inch diameter
steel probe under moderate pressure. Probying yielded penetrations of approximately 2 to 4-inches indicating
medium dense conditions. In our opinion, the slab subgrade within the common room are appears to have been
suitably prepared and is ready for placement of the rock base for the slab.
We also observed that the remaining backfill within the interior of Unit 102. The excavations were backfilled
with 5/8-inch crushed rock compacted with a jumping jack. Probing of the backfill within these areas yielded
penetrations of approximately 1 to 2 inches under moderate pressure indicating well compacted conditions. In our
opinion, the backfill observed today appears to have been suitably compacted and should support the planned
loads.
Our findings and conclusions are based on specific observations made while on site.
