Project: Filsen Deck
Project Address: 1212 8th Ave N
During review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following information,
clarifications or changes are needed. Provide written responses to each comment and where
changes can be found on the plans. Please resubmit to Marie Harrison, Permit Coordinator.
1. The proposed deck is non -conventional construction beyond the scope of the International
Residential Code. Provide structural calculations (including lateral) and details stamped and
signed by a State Licensed Professional Engineer to support this design. Calculations must also
include structural support of the deck structure to the roof overhang.
2. 2x8 cedar deck joists are overspanned. Increase to 2x10.
3. Note the size and spacing of the stair stringers.
4. Show how bottom of stair will be anchored to the concrete landing.
5. If stair will have open risers, the riser opening (opening between treads) cannot exceed 4".
Clarify stair detail.
6. Provide stair guardrail/handrail construction detail. See below for guardrail and handrail load
requirements.
7. Provide manufacturer's installation instructions and loading information for the glass panel
guardrail. See below for guardrail load requirements.
Guardrails and handrails (General information from IRC Table R301.5):
• 200 psf single concentrated load applied in any direction to toprail.
• 50 psf horizontally applied load for infill components
