We visited the site today at the request of Derek Abbott for the purpose of construction monitoring at the
residential development project located at 16404 - 75a' Place West, located in Edmonds, Washington.
Upon arrival to the site we met with Derek and Neil with B&D Rockeries. We discussed plans for
constructing the rockeries within the eastern portion of the site. The rockeries along the northern and
southern property lines would be approximately 2 to 3 feet tall and would replace the existing ecology
blocks. The final layout for the upper east -central portion of the site was not established and we were
discussing whether or not geogrid reinforcement would be necessary. We did not provide a final
recommendation at this time, but plan to be in close contact as the crew begins work on the rockeries. We
will return to the site when the earthwork contractors begin grading for the subject rockeries.
Our findings and conclusions are based on observations and construction activities observed while on site.

We visited the site today at the request of Derek Abbott for the purpose of construction monitoring at the
residential development project located at 16404 - 75d' Place West, located in Edmonds, Washington.
Upon arrival to the site we met Neil with B&D Rockeries. He informed us that they were focusing on
constructing the rockery within the northeastern portion of the property along the northern property line.
We observed that the crew had partially removed the 2 to 3 foot high ecology block wall along the northern
property line and were in the process of removing the base blocks while digging along the southern side
of the wall.
We consulted with the contractor and reviewed the NGA rockery design we previously prepared. We
recommended the northern and southern rockeries are designed with 1-foot embedment, a 1-foot minimum
2- to 4-inch rock spall base, and a wall drain. Similarly, the east -central rockery should follow these same
recommendations, in addition to geogrid reinforcement behind and to the east of the rockery. The geogrid
reinforcement should conform to our reinforced rockery wall detail previously prepared for this project.
The contractor agreed and inquired about placing two tiered rockeries along the east -central portion of the
property rather than one. In our opinion this should be feasible, provided that the walls will not exceed 3-
feet in height and are constructed in accordance with our reinforced rockery design detail.
We will return to the site to monitor the excavations and progress on the upper rockeries. Our findings
and conclusions are based on observations and construction activities observed while on site.

We visited the site today at the request of Derek Abbott for the purpose of construction monitoring at the
residential development project located at 16404 - 75 h Place West, located in Edmonds, Washington.
Upon arrival to the site we met Neil with B&D Rockeries. We observed the rockery along the northern
property line was installed. The exposed height above the adjacent ground surface is approximately 2 to
2.5 feet high. We also observed a wall drain daylighting from the western end of the wall. We discussed
construction of the rockery along the southern property line. For this rockery we recommended the existing
ecology block wall and any underlying loose soils be removed from this area and backfilled with rock
spalls back to the desired grade prior to constructing the rockery, the contractor agreed. We were informed
that the east -central rockery would be reduced back to one tier with a gentle slope above extending to
flatter inclinations near the roadway and property line. We recommended that the permanent slope does
not exceed 2H:1 V and is vegetated as soon as possible. We will return to the site to evaluate the
compaction of the structural fill material placed behind the east -central rockery within the reinforced fill
zone.
We will return to the site to monitor the excavations and progress on the upper rockeries. Our findings
and conclusions are based on observations and construction activities observed while on site.

We visited the site today at the request of Derek Abbott for the purpose of construction monitoring at the
residential development project located at 16404 - 75`h Place West, located in Edmonds, Washington.
Upon arrival to the site we met Neil with B&D Rockeries. We observed that the rockery along the
eastern property line was installed. We were informed that the contractor had installed three lifts of
imported Type 17 fill, each being approximately 8 inches thick, compacting each lift with a plate
compactor. We observed that geogrid had been installed, as some of the excess geogrid was hanging
over the rockery wall, while the other half of the geo-grid was covered with the backfilled material. The
geogrid consisted of Mirafi 5XT uniaxial geogrid. The geogrid was stretched tight and extended back
approximately 5 feet behind the rockery. The geogrid was then covered with Type 17 gravel borrow
fill and compacted in thin lifts with a plate compactor. After compaction the geogrid was wrapped over
the fill and repeated up to the top of the rockery.
We evaluated the rockery backfill using our !/2 inch diameter steel probe rod and nuclear densometer.
Probing yielded penetration of less than 2 inches under moderate pressure, which we interpreted as well
compacted. Density testing was conducted under ASTM D-1557, the modified proctor. Density test
results and locations are included on the attached pages. In -place density test results indicated greater
than 95% compaction of the maximum dry density for the material. Please refer to the attached results
page for details.
We will return to the site to monitor the excavations and progress on the upper rockeries. Our findings
and conclusions are based on observations and construction activities observed while on site. In our
opinion, the rockeries observed today have been constructed in accordance with the approved plans and
our recommendations.

We visited the site today at the request of Derek Abbott for the purpose of construction monitoring at the
residential development project located at 16404 - 75a' Place West, located in Edmonds, Washington.
Upon arrival we observed the completed rockeries along the north, south, and eastern portions of the site.
The rockery contractors were not onsite during our visit. Final grading for the driveway and lower parking
area was in progress, as well as, forming for stairs along the eastern edge of the residence. Based on our
observations while onsite, it is our opinion that the rockeries have been constructed in accordance with
our recommendations and the approved plans.
We will return to the site upon request to observe the final site conditions when vegetation and other
permanent erosion control measures are in place. Our findings and conclusions are based on observations
and construction activities observed while on site.
