follow up email to cancelation request.pdf
Good afternoon,
This is a follow-up to an email sent on September 23, 2013 in response to a request to cancel a City of Edmonds permit
to complete the work associated with the construction of a laundry closet, required per the International Building Code
(IBC) Section 105.1.
Since the work (or at least a significant portion of it) had already been done without a permit in violation of IBC Section
114, the cancelation of a permit to perform work requiring a permit could not be done unless the work area was returned
to its original state and confirmed by the Building Division.
The small amount of remaining work to be done by you and verified by inspection after obtaining the permit would allow
the laundry closet to remain and satisfy the concerns of the Homeowners Association. However, to date no further action
has been taken by you to complete the permit approval process required for the laundry closet to remain, or verification
made of the removal of the unpermitted work. The permit application will continue to be valid until March 12, 2014, after
which time it will be deemed to have been abandoned per IBC Section 105.3.2.
Has the work area been returned to its original state (that before the work started by the prior owner)? Do you
intend to obtain a permit to complete the work associated with the construction of a laundry closet?
A prompt response to this email, indicating the disposition of the proposed laundry closet and your desired course of
action to bring the area of work into compliance, is anticipated. Otherwise, under the terms of IBC Section 114, a Notice
of Violation may be served and the matter assigned to a Code Enforcement representative.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
