Follow up to Building Comments 3 email.pdf Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to go over the remaining items needed for the Building Division approval of the proposed third floor addition. It looks like all that we need are the following: For the fire resistance rated north and west walls: A reference to Gypsum Association File No. ‘WP 8105’ for the required one-hour fire-resistance rated wall · construction along the north and west walls of the proposed structure on the third level. A reference to Gypsum Association File No. ‘CM1450’ or File No. ‘CM 1451’ for the required one-hour fire- · resistance rated column construction used on the second level to support the northwest corner of the north and west walls of the proposed structure. Limiting the square footage of the windows in the one-hour fire-resistance rated north wall of the proposed · structure to 25% of the total wall area. This amounts to 57.5 sq. ft. on the north wall so a window may need to be eliminated or the windows can be smaller. This may also help with the lateral design done by Wendell Reed. Limiting the square footage of the windows in the one-hour fire-resistance rated west wall of the proposed · structure to 15% of the total wall area if the wall is at least three feet from the property line. This amounts to 30 sq. ft. on the west wall so a window may need to be eliminated or the windows can be smaller. If the wall is closer than three feet from the property line, then there can be no windows on that wall per IBC Table 705.8. For the proposed rim joist: Indicate on the plans a 4x12 beam along the north side to be used as a rim joist to support the floor and roof loads · of the proposed structure. For the lateral design: Have Wendell Reed provide lateral calculations for the design of the walls along the north and east walls of the · proposed structure on the third level. The design may change if windows are made narrower or eliminated. Thanks again and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
