We were requested byWalter Hyattwith Takes Development to address the following, We understand
that the City of Edmonds site inspector, Ms. Jeanie McConnell, has requested that the project
geotechnical engineer specifically address the following items,
1. Temporary excavation for garage founation;
2. Footing drain water; and
3. Erosion control on the south side of the site, next to street.
Temponrary Excavation for Garage Foundation
The temporary excavation for the garage is 9 feet deep and the base of the cut is located 8 feet, from the
north property line. The base of the cut is located slightly closer than a 1111V projected down from the
property line. The temporary excavation. is bettched and not a. sloped crit. We observed the excavation
yesterday afternoon. (11/8/07) and the out appears stable.
Footing Drain Water
A 3 -.inch perforated PVC drainpipe is installed in the crushed rock below the perimeter foundation of
the House, A small volume of water is flowing out of the pipe near the northwest corner of the house.
The water is being filtered by the geotextile fabric and crushed rock and is clean where it discharges.
The water is currently ru.rt<liag across the noahwest corner of the site and ponding against t o silt fence.
Water leaving the site through the silt fence is clean and is seeping into the ground and flowing toward a
natural ditch/channel to the north which connects to a small pond down. slope. We understand the City
has requested the water from the 3" peri' pipe be tightlined across the northwest corner of the project site.
Since the waiter is filtered and clean we recommend the water be tightli od to the property Cine and be
dispersed on a crushed rock pad that is wrapped with fitter fabric and be allowed to seep into the ground
toward the natural drainage Swale.
Erosion Control
Soils on the south side of the site have been disturbed by the construction equipment and the City is
requesting that the construction entrance be replaced and additional erosion control be installed in the
ditch along the street, if A.ccepta.blc to the city, we recommend the following erosion control measures
be installed.
1. Mulch disturbed soils with straw where there is a. potential that surface waiter nay leave the site.
2. Install rock check darns in the aitch at approximately 15 foot intcrva.ls, The Ghcck darts are to slaw
the water in the ditch and may be constructed with crushed rook or quarry spalls, Filter fabric .may also
be used.
3. Stalce straw bales in the bottom of the ditch near the southwest property corner to filter water -running
clown the ditch,
