It was brought to our attention this morning that the sewer lateral connecting to the
Gietzen side sewer will need to be replaced.
Tim Harris from Public Works was working on our Sewer Main line yesterday behind the
Gietzen’s property and several other homes and encountered a large problem with roots in
the line.
It has always been a requirement for new homes that are planning to reuse sewer laterals to
have Public Works TV them to assure reusability. This is usually done at the demolition
stage when the sewer is capped. Possibly because of the confusion of whether this was a
new single family or an addition, it was missed. I don’t know.
However, fortunately Public Works was able to look at the lateral because of the current
work they are doing. The lateral to the Gietzen’s property is not reusable due to roots
damaging the line and must be replaced. It will be possible for the replacement to connect
at the same location as the current unusable pipe connects now. If you are planning to
reuse the side sewer then it is required that the homeowner have that line TV’d and a
report stating reusability be submitted to Public Works prior to connection to the lateral.
A side sewer and right of way permit will be required for this work.
If you have any questions regarding these requirements, you may contact me or one of the
other Engineering Techs at 425-771-0220.
