RE: Permit Application #2007-1130
Project: Greenberg Mixed Use -- Mechanical
rd
Project Address: 155 3 Ave South
During re-review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following
information, clarifications or changes are needed. Provide written responses to each comment and
where changes can be found on the plans. Please resubmit 2 sets of revised plans/documents to
Marie Harrison, Permit Coordinator.
1.The supply duct for the elevator equipment room is not permitted to penetrate the 1-hour exit
enclosure (IBC 1020.1.2), even if protected with a fire/smoke damper. Provide section details
showing how this will be done and maintain the 1-hour exit enclosure. This duct cannot be run
in soffits below 1-hour rated ceilings as noted on Sheet MA2.0. Also, mechanical plans need to
be coordinated as to whether the elevator equipment room includes the area to the south of the
exit enclosure, or if it stops at the wall where the fire/smoke damper is shown on Sheet M1.1
with this area as void space. The issue of penetrating the 1-hour exit enclosures and providing
details showing how the 1-hour fire rated assemblies are being maintained has been brought up
in past plan reviews, including previous items 2 and 4a.
2.Sheet M1.1 shows supply air for each stair enclosure, but still requires exhaust air (IMC 403.1 –
also see IMC 601.3). Please revise.
3.The ventilation system on Sheets MA2.0 and MA3.0 shows the system serving both stair
enclosures, the hallway and upper floor corridor, which is not permitted per IBC 1020.1.2 &
1020.1.3, and IMC 601.3. Also, the ventilation system for each exit enclosure, corridor and
hallway needs to be coordinated between the plans by the engineer and the new MAxx plans.
4.Where combination fire/smoke dampers are used, clearly show location and access panel on the
plans and provide manufacturerÂ’s information. Note actuation requirements on the plans per
IBC 716. Also, contact Fire Marshal for requirements of tie-in to building fire alarm system.
5.Show return or exhaust air for upper floor corridor.
6.The garage exhaust location on Sheets MA 1.0, MA2.0, and MA3.0 need to be coordinated with
Sheets M1.1 and M2.1 which shows the shaft location on the original approved plans. If the
location will be changed per the MAxx sheets, plans must show the new location of the 1-hour
shaft, meet exhaust outlet termination requirements of IMC 501.2.1 #2, and submit revised
elevation views showing the exhaust outlet.
7.Previous item 13: As a reminder, revised architectural floor plans are required for the areas and
uses of space that have changed from what was shown on the original approved plans.
