FYI in case someone inquires.
This is the continuing remediation work at the UNOCAL lower yard, which is not regulated by the city.
Chris-
We mobilized for Phase II on July 22, 2008. Thus far, our work has consisted of preparation
for additional excavation at the site, including equipment and materials delivery and
establishing haul roads across the site. We are also moving the water-treatment equipment
to the center portion of the site. No significant work has been conducted within 150-feet of the
heron nests, and we have noted no disturbance of the birds.
We have two scheduled excavations which will be within 150-feet of the existing nests,
including excavation B-1, which was started and abandoned due to higher water levels in
winter 2007-2008, and a new excavation planned for southwest of the larger detention basin
(where our water treatment equipment was previously located). Both excavations are
planned for August, after the end of the January-July window.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns. I am located
at the site most days, and can be reached on my cell phone.
