09 Ground Support PLLC 16932 Woodinville -Redmond Road NE #210 Woodinville, WA 98072 Phone (425) 488-1143 www.groundsupport.com Memorandum To: City of Edmonds Date: 11/11/2019 Fr: John Byrne — Ground Support Re: Response to Shoring Review Comments dated 07/03/2019 (BLD # 2018-1622) Our Ref.: 19-21 Responses follow. G1. The adjoining property owner in this case is the City of Edmonds and we understand that an easement will be available for the temporary shoring piles. G2. For the Civil Engineer. Normal approach is to attach drain mat to the wood lagging and connect it to footing drain. Not part of the shoring plans. G3. Soldier piles will remain. Water -proofing details for others and not part of the shoring design. S1. a. Verified that the shoring design complies with AISC 360-10. b. Factor of safety of 1.5 is already applied to the passive toe pressures. Standard of practice for temporary shoring to then require an additional factor of safety of 1.2 against overturning about the toe of the pile to determine the required depth of embedment for cantilevered soldier piles. S2. Special Inspections note updated, as requested. Obviously, seismic and wind issues are not required for temporary shoring piles. S 3. a. Plastic modulus capacity of W 14x22 exceeds that of W 10x26. b. Capacity of W21xI I I is 99% of what the calculations call for. Calculations do not have that level of precision. Substitution is acceptable. S4. Considering set -backs from the shoring, all loads have been properly accounted for. For example, the design earth pressures adjacent the rockery have assumed level ground from the top of the wall (Piles N1-N20) whereas the actual geometry looks as shown for N12 (SH4.0). S5. Report reference updated. No changes to the design as a result. INNOVATIVE AND COST EFFECTIVE EXCAVATION SUPPORT DESIGN SOIL NAIL WALLS - ANCHORED PILE WALLS - VENIS© SYSTEM - MICROPILE WALLS November 11, 2019 2 S6. Drainage is not required for the shoring as such. Permanent drainage measures to be attached to the face of the shoring as part of the permanent structure drainage is to be addressed by others but is not part of the shoring design itself.
