This work plan presents a description of proposed pavement coring in support of the 84th
Avenue West Overlay Project, between 2201h Street SW and 212th Street SW. The
location of project site is shown in the Vicinity Map, Figure 1. Our work will consist of
drilling four (4) pavement cores to verify existing thickness and assess subgrade
condition.
All phases will be conducted within City of Edmonds Right of Way. The location of the
proposed work is presented in the attached Site & Exploration Plan, Figures 2-5.
Traffic control plans, developed using WSDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Guidelines,
are also included in this work plan.
SCOPE OF WORK: The work will consist of coring using a 6-inch-diameter vehicle
mounted core drill. These operations are detailed in the following paragraphs.
Pavement Coring
The coring process consists of setting cones, backing the pavement coring vehicle
onto the core location, drilling with a 6-inch diameter core barrel for
approximately 20-40 minutes, then hand excavating the soil beneath the roadway.
Core cuttings are vacuumed from the roadway during drilling, and the roadway is
swept clean prior to patching. After hand excavation, the soil and aggregate are
returned to the core hole in 6-inch lifts and compacted using a slide compactor.
The roadway surface will be patched with Aquaphalt pavement
patch yed to match the existing color. 21312 301h Drive SE

location and will occupy one lane of travel at each exploration location. Once
completed, cones and equipment will be gathered and moved to the next coring
location.
DURATION OF WORK: We anticipate work will be performed between 9:00 AM
and 3:00 PM. We expect pavement coring will require one (1) day of work. o K
TRAFFIC CONTROL PLANS: WSDOT Work Zone Plan TC1, which addresses one -lane
two-way traffic control with flaggers will be used for all work within the roadway. Cones
will be placed around the work zone and a protection vehicle will be positioned behind
the coring vehicle.
