RE: Plan review of trash enclosure and access
BLD20180503 — Kids Foundation Academy, 21827 76th Ave. W, Edmonds
My preliminary review shows that the existing trash enclosure is to be eliminated and the
proposed location will now be on the east side of the lower portion of the building, with its
opening to the north.
Access for the service trucks is possible and the location dictates that roll -out service will occur.
The front -load trucks will pull into the adjacent drive aisle, roll the containers to the front of the
truck, return them and then the trucks will need to back out of the site onto 219th St.
For this scenario, it would be beneficial for the enclosure's opening to be orientated to the east
and even moved closer to the edge with the drive aisle. The gated side of the enclosure will
always be the longest dimension and, as such, needs to be entirely accessed, meaning that the
width of the structure is fully clear when the gates are open.
If the enclosure is kept in its proposed location, the opening would then need to be increased in
width, but the resulting gate section would impede on the adjacent opening to the building when
it was in an open position. It appears there is a sufficient apron that connects the enclosure with
the drive aisle.
One thing I can assume but need clarification for, is that this enclosure will likely serve the
whole building, just not the Academy. I will need to see dimensions for any proposed enclosure
anyway to determine what the minimum requirements will be.
As mentioned above, service trucks will need to back out of the site, which our enclosure policy
addresses as a big safety concern, and therefore calls for the elimination of or reducing the
duration of backing. Since 2191h acts as a "side" street this may be a non -issue. I always seek
comments from the waste hauler on proposed enclosures and will find out if backing out will be
agreeable.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
