W., Edmonds, WA. 98026 Dear Mr. Kirkpatrick, The City has received a complaint regarding your fence height (being over 6 feet). The site was inspected and the fence is over 6 feet and within 10 feet of an access easement. The following extracted code sections in the Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC) would apply (bold added) 17.30.000 General. A fence permit shall be required for any fence over three feet in height which is also A. within 10 feet of any street right-of-way or access easement or within 30 feet of any corner. Height shall be measured from the top of the fence to the lowest original grade. B. A fence permit shall be required for any fence within a critical area or its buffer. Unless a variance is first obtained, no fence shall be more than six feet in height C. as measured from the top of the fence to the lowest original grade. Please submit a complete application for a fence permit at your earliest convenience by March 20, 2007. A Permit Coordinator will accept your application. As noted above, if you wish to apply for a fence over 6 feet tall, a variance application is also required. There is no guarantee that a variance will be granted if an application is submitted.
