Subject: LANDSCAPING MAINTENANCE BOND - FILE 4 BLD -2008-0025
To Whom It May Concern:
MIKE COOPER
MAYOR
The building permit referenced above was for the construction of the parking lot at 7512 221st Place
SW in 2008. With that permit was a bond for landscaping maintenance in the amount of $2,447.00
which was posted on March 23, 2009. The bond expires on March 23, 2011, and requires that the
landscaping at the site today matches what was originally approved and installed.
Based on an inspection performed on March 9, 2011, it was noted that while most of the installed
plants appeared to be reasonably healthy, some were not and it looked like there had not been any
maintenance done in most of the planting beds for some time. Specifically:
1. Approximately half of the Emerald Green Arborvitae installed along the western
property boundary were dead and need to be replaced.
2. The ivy that had been removed along the western property boundary has returned.
Ivy is an invasive that requires on-going attention to remove and eradiate.
3. Throughout the planting beds, there were many downed branches and other material
as well as weeds encroaching the kinnickinnik ground cover that was installed in
2008. In some instances, it was difficult to tell the ground cover from the weeds.
In order to release the bond, maintenance of the planting beds around the parking lot must be
performed. If you choose not to perform the maintenance and bring the planting areas into
agreement with the approved landscaping plan, the City can capture the bond and use the money to
bring the site into compliance. Alternatively, you can perform the maintenance and once that is
complete, I can do another inspection. If the appearance of the landscaping matches the approved
plan at that point, the $2,447.00 bond can be released. Please let me know how you would like to
proceed or schedule a follow-up inspection by March 31, 2011.
