RE: Request for Alternate Design — Air Admittance Valve at 18604 Sound View Place, Edmonds
Dear Mr. Helleren:
The City is in receipt of your request for alternate design (reference building permit #2008-0510) for
installation of an air admittance valve serving the kitchen sink at the Lanning residence at 18604
Sound View Place in Edmonds. Reasons for the alternate venting source include that existing drains in
the floor joist bay are too high to accommodate a conventional loop vent. The City recognizes that air
admittance valves may be allowed in certain circumstances under the provision of section 301.2 of the
Uniform Plumbing Code.
The request to use an air admittance valve in the location indicated is hereby approved with the noted
conditions below.
The device must be listed by a UPC recognized agency, and contain that agency's approval on
the label of the device.
The device shall be installed per manufacturer's specifications. Please provide these to the
building inspector at the time of inspection.
• The plumbing contractor will provide the owner with written directions as to how to inspect
and maintain the air admittance valve for life. These directions shall be provided to all future
homeowners.
Sincerely,
Leif Bjorback
Assistant Building Official
