Project: New Deck
Project Address: 724 Alder Street
During review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following information,
clarifications or changes are needed. Please submit revised plans/documents to Marie Harrison,
Senior Permit Coordinator.
1.On the site plan, show the outline of the existing deck to be removed (with dashed line).
2.Revised deck ledger detail as follows: The deck 2x ledger must be attached directly to the 2x
rim joist. Revise lag bolt size and spacing to 3/8 x 4 ½ lag screw at 3 o.c. staggered, or have
a State licensed Professional Engineer justify the lag screw size and spacing you have proposed
(with stamped/signed calcs). Show required flashing (for example: up under siding and
downward over ledger with drip edge at bottom so water does not run back toward exterior
wall).
3.The bolting of the ledger to the masonry chimney is considered non-conventional construction
and requires design by a State licensed Professional Engineer (stamped and signed). Or, revise
to meet conventional construction by providing posts and beam in this area with no connection
to the masonry.
4.For the prefabricated guardrail, have the manufacturers installation instruction and load
information on site for the building inspector for code verification, or submit now and it will be
reviewed with this deck application.
