Inspection for Swedish Hospital (Parking Structure and Main Extension water main projects were performed Simultaneously. No work on Main Extension project today. Gre co continued trench and 12-inch pipe installation along west side of the parking structure, stations 10+68 to 10+60 were completed today. Contractor had completed work on Saturday. 5-3, consisting of 12-inch water main installation on west side from —13+00 to 10+68, and along the north side from 34+09 to 35+00 (=10+68). 12-inch Tee and 3) 12-inch gate valves were also placed at Sta. 10+68. The connection at 34+09 was exposed and visually verified. Joint had magalug fitting. Contractor was working at 10+68 and was exposed for inspection. Tee was flanged. Valves were flange joint to the Tee and inegalug joint to the DI 12-inch pipe. Cover was 4.0-ft to existing asphalt surface from top of pipe 8:30 AM Talked with Andy regarding schedule. Gre co plans to fill and pressure test on Wed., flush main on Thur., and take pUrity samples on Monday 5-12 . 1 checked with Kris K. at COE and confirmed that the City is OK with proposed schedule. I checked with JoAnne (COE) and scheduled City Sewer Dept. for monitoring of water main flush into local SSMH. Andy also asked whether OK to pressure test into hydrant. I informed him that this is not allowed. FH must be in normal operating condition during pressure test (valve open, hydrant closed). Pressure test will have to be conducted at blowoff fitting at end of main. 9:00 AM Started to lay 12-inch main. First stick of pipe not fitting into valve on north leg of the Tee at 10+68. A second pipe was test fit but also not working . Andy informed me that valve appears to have bad casting. He called Supplier HD Fowler and ordered replacement. 10:00 AM 12-inch GV removed. 11:15 AM New 12-inch GV delivered by FID Fowler and installed in place of bad unit. One partial stick of 12-inch pipe was then laid heading north out of this valve. Stations 10+68 to 10+60. No pipe bedding or trench backfill was done today. 12:15 PM Thrust block prepped and poured on west side of Tee, 10+68. Block was POUred to COE specifications. Plastic sheeting laced between fitting and concrete. Concrete was hand -mixed and placed into forms. West side of the block was poured against undisturbed soil. Contractor had also used field -lock gasket on the first stick of pipe heading east from this Tee. 1:30 PM Off -site c+..... A:.." Inspection for Swedish Hospital (Parking Structure and Main Extension water main projects were performed simultaneously. No work on Main Extension proiect today Gre co continued trench and 12-inch pipe installation along west side of the parking structure, stations 10+60 to 10+10 were completed today. Trench was extended north and then west toward tie-in point with Water Main Extension project (Station 10+10). Several utilities were crossed including private irrigation sleeves, illumination conduit, and 4-inch communication conduits. Trench was routed below each utility with greater than 12-inch clearance to top of the new water main. 8.30 AM First stick of pipe installed. 1:30 PM Small piece of pipe and 45 degree bend placed at Sta. 10+33. 2:30 PM Laying ioe with 45 degree fitting at Sta. 10+19. 3:30 PM Finish laying last stick of pipe with blowoff assembly to station 10+10. 4:00 PM Pipe bedded Using native sand soil. Jumping ack compactor was used along sides of pipe and at top of initial 6-inch lift backfill above pipe. Trench backfilled LISilig native. Hoe ac compaction was done at 6 to 12-inch lifts. 5:00 PM Thrust blocking was placed on outside of each bend. Concrete was hand -mixed and placed into forms with dimensions per COE detail. 5:15 PM Brian Landau Associates. Geotech on site to perform compaction testing He used steel probe to check firmness of soil at trench surface. Soil did not have satisfactory compaction. Contractor was told to perfrom additional compaction. Soil remained soft after re -corn actin . I talked with Brian and Andy. Contractor was instructed to remove and replace the trench backfill. This work will not be done today. None of the trench work for today has met compaction requirements. Started to lay 12-inch main. Inspection for Swedish Hospital (Parking Structure and Main Extension water main projects were performed simultaneously. All pipe and trenching for water main has been completed on Gre co's contract. Contractor performed fill and preSSUre test tocia 8:10 AM Start filling main. Meter and double check assembly connected blowoff to blowoff at Sta. 0+45 Sheet C-501). Filling rate was estimated at 350 GPM. Maximum rate per spec is 360 GPM. 8:50 AM Filling complete. Approx. 1100 cubic feet water metered into the pipe. After main filled and brow ht to line preSSLIre. contractor found leeking ball valve at blowoff (Not part of permanent s stern). 9:30 AM Main between 0+00 and 3+75 was isolated and partially drained to remove the bad ball valve. Draining was done to sewer. 11:00 AM Valve replaced. Main refilled and brought back to line pressure. All valves rep end to test entire main. Hydrants were per ed to remove air. 11:20 AM PLIMP started and pressure brou ht to 235 psi. Pressure held steady. 1:20 PM No clean a noted on gauge ressure: 235 psi. I gave OK to contractor for satisfactory ressure test. Contractor was given verbal approval to go ahead with connection at 0+45 Sheet C-501 . Gre co did not perform connection work today. 11:00 AM Water main trench at Sta. 10+15 to 10+35 was excavated to about 3-ft depth. This section of trench had problems with compaction of native backfill (See report on 5-6-14). Soft material was removed and replaced using import crushed rock. Landua Associates visited site and performed inspection of trench material/com paction. Sheet C-501. 6:30 AM Drain 12-inch main between 0+45 and 3+75 to allow removal of temp cap w/BO. 7:20 AM Hot -swab pipe ends in excavation. 8:15 AM Cut 3.0-ft length of 12-inch DI spool for connection. All parts swabbed with chlorine -- 12-inch spool and (2) 12-inch sleeves. 8:30 AM Placespool and sleeves. Begin bolting Megalug fittings. See attached as -built diagram. 10:30 AM Finish bolting me alu s. Reactivate water main. Kris (COE Water Dept) on site. Kris performed flush of the system to FH at SW corner of the parking structure. Flush was performed for approximately 20 minutes. Flush was performed as a precaution to avoid stagnant water. I performed visual check of fittings at connection. No leaks observed. Backfill excavation at connection with CSBC. Jumping ack used to compact pipe bedding and backfill around conduits Hoe ac used to compact trench backfill in upper part of the trench. This location is in planter area. 12,30 PM Subcontractor, Superior Tapping. on site to perform hot tap for 1-inch service, Station 34+76. gregco had previously exposed the main at this location. Cover to main was 3.0-ft. Cover to finished grade at this location expected to be 3.5-ft. 1-inch saddle and corp stop were oriented at approximately 40 from horizontal. 12:45 PM 1-inch tap completed. Saddle and corp visually inspected and no leaks observed. 2:30 PM Off Site.
