Dear Mr. & Mrs. McDonald,
The City has received a complaint that an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) has been established at the
subject property without the required building permits and Planning approvals. An ADU is an allowed use
in residential zones, however a permit is required prior to utilization.
Corrective actions required:
• Please contact me at your earliest convenience by February 16, 2018 at 425-771-0220 x1716 to
respond to this letter. An Order to Correct is issued if no contact is made. Please note that I will
be out of the office 2/9 through 2/13.
• If you want to create or utilize an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) at the subject property, it would
be necessary to make a complete application for that development by February 28, 2018.
o Please note that an ADU has certain requirements regarding size, location and
appearance that this structure would need to meet in order to be approved. It is also
necessary for the property owner to live in one of the units at the property.
o A building permit is also required to address the physical changes to the structure
developed to create the apartment (walls, plumbing, etc.)
• If you don't want to or are unable to obtain an ADU approval, it would be necessary to confirm
that the basement area is maintained as a single family residence through an inspection by
February 28, 2018.
