Dear Mr. Landers,
The City has received a complaint regarding your fence height (being over 6 feet from original grade)
The following extracted code sections in the Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC) would
apply (bold added)
17.30.000 General.
A. A fence permit shall be required for any fence over three feet in height which is also within 10 feet of
any street right-of-way or access easement or within 30 feet of any corner. Height shall be measured from
the top of the fence to the lowest original grade.
B. A fence permit shall be required for any fence within a critical area or its buffer.
C. Unless a variance is first obtained, no fence shall be more than six feet in height as measured from
the top of the fence to the lowest original grade.
Corrective actions:
Please reduce the height of the fence to be no more than six feet in height as measured from the
·
top of the fence to the lowest original grade by May 25, 2007 or;
Please submit a complete application for a fence permit at your earliest convenience by May 25,
·
2007. A Permit Coordinator will accept your application. As noted above, if you wish to apply
for a fence over 6 feet tall, a variance application is also required. There is no guarantee that a
variance will be granted if an application is submitted. A Planner can answer questions regarding
variance criteria.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience by May 9, 2007 to advise your plan to reach
·
compliance.
Handouts on fences and variances are enclosed for your assistance. Thank you in advance for your
cooperation and assistance.
