Subject: Old Milltown. Fire Sprinklers
Dear Anne,
JAN 12 2009
I understand your concerns of issuing the sprinkler permit for the lower half (wet system) of the
Old Milltown building in advance of receiving the design for the upper building (dry system) is
that there may be changes to the design that affect the current design, and that we will get too far
ahead and want shell core on the west (wet) half before the east (dry) half is finished,
I am requesting that the permit for the wet system be issued separately from the permit for the
dry system. The reason for this is that the wet system has already been contracted for, the
materials are on site, and it is necessary to complete the wet system installation before the
insulation and drywall can be installed. We are ready to cover, but cannot begin in the lower
floor restaurant areas until the sprinklers are installed.
The dry system is for areas of the building that will not require very much additional prep
beyond the sprinklers and are therefore not nearly as time sensitive. The dry system design and
cost proposal have been submitted to us by Western Fire, but we are not yet under contract as
this amount was not in our original construction loan and is currently being reviewed by the
construction lender- Understandably, Western Fire wilI not prepare the drawings for the permit
for the dry system extension until we sign the contract. They have however designed and
installed the base system to which the dry extension will be added.
We understand that all work is at our own risk, if the design of the system requires changes --
they must be made, all sprinkler work must remain exposed until the permit for the 2nd half is
issued -- then the entire design will be verified, etc. We also understand that you will condition
the permit to cover the city_ We will not request shell and core on the lower half wet system until
the upper half dry system has been installed and passed inspection.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance,
Robert Gregg, Owner
