RE: PLAN REVIEW COMMENTSFOR PLANCHECK #BLD20140402
SLATE SALON & SPASIGNSLOCATED AT 601 DAYTON ST.
Dear Applicant:
I have reviewed the above building permit applicationfor the Planning Division, and it was found that the following
information, corrections, or clarifications will need to be addressedbefore review can continue:
SignDetail:
1.The sign detail does not appear toaccurately representa cross-section view of the proposed
signs. For example, the detail indicates a letter being mounted to the outside of the existing wall with a
“transformer in raceway”on the inside of the wall. Also, the aluminumbackground is not indicated on the
sign detailand it is unclear where the raceway will actually be located. Please revise the sign detail in order
to accurately depict what is being proposed. Is the aluminumbackground separate fromthe raceway? Is the
background proposed to be illuminated? Will the raceway be on the inside or outside of the building?
Sign Area:
2.The maximum allowed sign area for the site isequivalent to one square foot per lineal foot of
wall containing the main public entrance. Additionally, the maximum allowed area per proposed sign is
equivalent to one square foot per lineal foot of wall. It appears that the proposed signs will comply with these
requirements; however, additional documentation must be provided in order to confirm compliance. Please
respond to the following regarding the proposed sign area:
a.Clearly indicate the locations of the two proposed signs on yoursite plan.
b.Indicate the exterior building dimensions on your site plan(including all walls facing the southern and
western property lines). It may be helpful to use a larger scale site plan in order to clearly identify the
dimensions.
Sign Illumination:
3.Please add clarification tothe plans in order to confirm compliance with the following
requirements related to sign illumination:
a.Pursuant to ECDC 20.60.020.M.2, internally illuminated signs in the downtown area may only light the
letters. As such, the teal horizontal lineand the sign background/racewaycannot be internally
illuminated. It appears that the background/raceway is not proposed to be illuminated, but theplans will
need to be clarified in order to confirm that is the case. Additionally, the plans will need to be modified
in order to confirm that the teal horizontal line will not beinternally illuminated.
b.Pursuant to ECDC 20.60.020.M.5, internally illuminated signs in the downtown area shall not be
permitted to be higher than 14’. Theheights of the proposed signs are not indicated on the plans, so staff
cannot confirm compliance with this requirement. Please indicate the heights of the proposed signs on
the elevation viewsand make any necessary corrections in order to comply with this requirement.
Please submit threecopies of your revisedplan sheetsto a Development Services Permit Coordinator. Our office
