RE Fire Connection.txt RE Fire Connection.txt MessageFrom: Westfall, John Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 1:40 PM To: 'thetrikestop@comcast.net (Autumn Snow)' Cc: McConnell, Jeanie; McMurphy, Linda Subject: RE: Fire Connection Autumn: Thank you for your note. I witnessed a hydrostatic test & flush on 9/20 for the 1.5" underground for the sprinkler. I asked the installer to keep the trench open until I clarified that gravel was/was not specified. It was not. I told Reid by phone that he could backfill once he installed a trace wire for utility detection so no one will break it. Allow me to pass your question to the engineering and public works folks that you speak of. Jeanie is for Engineering and Linda is for PW water quality. Ladies-please answer Autumn's question. I just need to double check that we got the OK from you on the fire connection from the street to the house when you were out with Cascade Alarm as they tested it. He also mentioned that I needed engineering and public works to possibly inspect the line before it was covered...is this correct? I don't believe this was done. Please let me know what you think, Autumn -- Autumn Snow, Owner The Trike Stop Childcare Center #425-774-9022 -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Westfall, John" <Westfall@ci.edmonds.wa.us> Autumn: -The sprinkler plans show that you are providing a 1.5" supply pipe the sprinkler fitter/system. -I'm not sure what PSI you mean, but the design of Cascade Alarm's system shows 328.3 gpm @ 71.4 psi requirement at the street (upstream) before your 1.5" supply. These are immutable values that have already been tested and approved. -Lastly, although this is one pipe many departments are involved. Engineering Division (425 771-0220) may want to inspect from the city main to the shutoff, Building Division (425 771-0220) will need to see from shutoff to building, then I will inspect the riser and sprinkler piping once installed in the building. Please let me know if you have further questions. I am sure these are questions my sprinkler/alarm people should know and please understand I have asked them numerous times with little to no help. - What size of pipe would you like to connect from the line into the house? - What PSI? - Anything else I should know before I buy the pipe? What architectural changes are being proposed? Cascade Alarm, who will be installing the sprinkler & alarm systems, called today with concerns that their design may no longer work due to architectural changes. Is this correct? If so what will you be looking for now? Thank you for taking the time to help me figure this out. Autumn Snow -- Autumn Snow, Owner The Trike Stop Childcare Center #425-774-9022 Page 2
