Helical Pile Review for Structural Compliance/Capacity
Date: November 25, 2018
Project Name: 22218 98th Ave W Foundation Stabilization Effort L120 Project # S181008-1
Project Location: 22218 98t" Ave W, Edmonds, WA 98020
Client's Name: Korey Yada, Production Coordinator — Permitting, Ram Jack West
To Whom It May Concern:
The purpose of this letter is to give structural input for the compliance of the final structural capacity of the
installed product to meet or exceed the required maximum loading demand as determined by structural analysis.
This letter is based on the helical pile installation log dated November 12, 2018, provided to L120 by Ram Jack
West for Ram Jack Job #018-517.
With the grade -beams at a maximum span of 8'-0" on center at the exterior, the maximum required vertical
capacity that L120 determined was 18 kips (ultimate) for helical piles. These demand requirements are as
determined and specified in L120's structural calculation package issued on October 9, 2018.
Pile capacities for helical piles as provided by Ram Jack are attached to this letter. Per the attached documents, a
2-7/8" o helical pile installed between 5ft and 8ft deep with a 2.5K drive head at a minimum pressure of 2,700psi
results in an ultimate capacity of 22.9 kips. The results are summarized below:
Helical:
Maximum Demand (ultimate) = 18.Ok
Available Capacity (ultimate) = 22.9 k (2.51K drive head)
By inspection, the pile capacity of the installed helical piles exceeds the maximum loading demand as determined
by L120's analysis. Therefore, the installed piles comply with the structural design/demand.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mans R. Thurfjell, P.E

*NOTE: 1) Ultimate Capacity(Qu) = Installation Torque (T) x Torque Correlation Factor(Kt).
2) Capacities shown in table assumes the pile is fully braced and has no eccentric loading.
3) A safety factor of 2 should be applied to the ultimate capacity to obtain the working load capacity.
