RE: Plan review for required trash enclosure
BLD 2010-0293 — Celtic Cowboy BBQ LLC, 21104 -70th Ave. W, Suite B
The application contains a site plan that shows a proposed trash enclosure for the building.
Access to the enclosure lies adjacent to the proposed accessible parking space. This
scenario is acceptable but it will limit your level of service since any containers will have
to be rolled out of, and back into the area, without interference from parked vehicles.
Ample maneuver room must be maintained for service purposes.
• The enclosure area will have to be on the same grade as the adjacent parking area.
• The gate section on the right (north) will need to be able to swing back 180 degrees
to fully open the area to allow the passage of the container(s).
• Gate sections need to have drop -pins or appropriate hardware to ensure secure gates
in both open and closed positions.
• Please indicate full gate swing and note use of gate stops on resubmitted plans
(called for -under Engineering Comments 1).
The largest container available on rollers is a 4 -cubic yard. Our enclosure policy (Handout
4E-37 on the city website) states that businesses with continuous heavy or wet garbage,
such as restaurants, cafeterias, bakeries, etc, may be required to have direct front -load
container service, or more frequent service if a smaller container is used and rolled out for
service.
However, smaller containers for garbage and recycle are the likely type for your waste
volumes. One option available for food service businesses is commercial organics
collection, which accepts all food scraps and food -soiled paper, and could lower your
garbage costs since it is hauled to a commercial composting facility.
Another option for container placement would be within the indicated outside storage area.
That would allow a more direct service approach (perhaps using its own set of gates).
Longer roll-out travel is subject to fees by the garbage hauling company.
