RE: Plan review for required trash enclosure
BLD 2010-0654 — O'Reilly Auto Parts, 23005 Highway 99, Edmonds WA
The proposed plan shows an appropriate location for the trash enclosure. Our enclosure
and access policy dictates that the footprint of this structure be sized to accept both garbage
and recycle containers.
The proper size would be 22' in width by 12' in depth. The clear gate opening shall be
minimum 18' when gates are in the open position. The plan shows this depth now but the
enclosure would need to expand an additional 8' to the cast. Gate sections will need to be
sized accordingly. No center posts are accepted.
Due to the local hauling service, both containers would need to be accessed directly by
their front -load type collection trucks. Therefore the containers need to be placed side-by-
side allowing independent servicing. The appropriate service level calls for larger volume
containers for this business.
There is ample depth at this site that could allow the option of an offset gate design. One
gate section is placed 3' farther to the north than the other gate section and both are kept in
place by drop pins in the closed position (gate sections would not meet). This enables
more convenient everyday access for employees and leaves the larger gates to be opened
and closed by the truck drivers only. This is a perfectly acceptable design and is quite
popular with all users. Drop pins are required since they also serve to pin the gates open
during servicing.
Upon resubmitting please show new enclosure size, with finished inside dimensions,
indicate gate swing and use/location of drop pins/sleeves.
